If you are anything like me, you find yourself constantly stumbling over your words, spilling your drink, knocking something off your desk, missing your mouth, etc, etc. My life seems to be stuck in a never ending blooper reel!
At this point, I feel I must accept the fact that I’m the one bound to mess something up. Strangely enough, I’m ok with this! For example, last week I passed two of my friends in the hallway and attempted to respond when they said hi. Unfortunately, I was drinking water at the time and ended out spilling it all down my shirt!! As I walked away, my first instinct was to cringe with embarrassment, but then I made the conscious decision to laugh at my mistake. I realized they too had walked away laughing and I loved that! As cheesy as it sounds, I was able to provide them with a little bit of humor that morning!
The truth is, the stupidity and clumsiness of others is extremely entertaining. I mean if this wasn’t true then AFV wouldn’t have been able to produce 27 seasons. 27!
Often times a person can fix a problem he or she needs to correct by over-correcting the problem. For this reason, you can break the habit of feeling embarrassed because of your mistakes by choosing to laugh with the audience members of your epic fail instead of running away in humiliation.
Lately I’ve tried to laugh at myself after having done something silly, and I can attest that it really does help get through the moment! You may find that being able to laugh at yourself can actually lift your spirits and help you to accept who you are.
Just remember, whatever you did to embarrass yourself provided someone with a moment of entertainment during their long day of work, school, etc. So next time you trip over flat ground or belt out the lyrics to a song too early, just laugh it off!
